Proactive & Conservative Treatment
We are committed to taking a less-is-more approach to orthodontics. Our goal is always to opt for the most effective and clinically appropriate treatment possible for each patient, including early intervention for children.
Treatment Options for All Ages
At Surrideo Orthodontics, we believe a straight, healthy smile is an asset at any age. We offer orthodontic treatment options tailored to the needs of children, teens, and adults.

Early Assessments for Children
Early orthodontic assessments, typically around age seven, give families insight into how a child’s teeth and jaws are developing. This allows for timely guidance and thoughtful planning, with treatment only when appropriate.
Orthodontics for Oral Health
Orthodontic treatment does more than help create a great-looking smile. For many patients, orthodontic care supports healthier habits, improved function, and long-term oral health.
Better Oral Function
Improving the alignment of the teeth and jaws can help improve their actual function, including everyday activities like biting, chewing, and speaking. Problems with these basic functions can be debilitating for many patients, and we take great pleasure in helping our patients resolve them.
Better Oral Hygiene
With straight teeth, it’s much easier to access all the spaces between your teeth with your toothbrush and floss than it is with overcrowded or misaligned teeth. For many of our patients, orthodontic treatment makes a huge difference when it comes to avoiding serious oral health problems like tooth decay and gum disease.
Long-Term Damage Prevention
Misaligned teeth can sustain a lot of wear and tear over time as they move against each other in uneven patterns during talking and chewing, or as a result of compensatory movements. Straightening your teeth can help you avoid much of this wear and tear and reduce the need for restorative dental treatments in the future.
Knowledge is Power for Patients
We believe that well-informed patients are more likely to be successful with their orthodontic treatment. For this reason, our team prioritizes patient communication.
Our team is always available to answer questions, and we continually strive to ensure that our patients understand each element of their treatment plans at every stage along the way.
Here are our answers to some of the most common questions new patients ask about orthodontics.
-
What are the benefits of orthodontics?
Orthodontic treatments are designed to align the teeth and jaws in order to achieve a number of aesthetic and functional benefits.
When teeth are misaligned, they can be harder to clean, which may increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. Alignment issues can also affect how the teeth come together, sometimes making chewing less efficient and placing added strain on the jaw, face, or neck. By improving tooth and jaw alignment, orthodontic treatment can help support better oral hygiene, more comfortable function, and overall oral health.
-
What is an orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a dental specialist who focuses on diagnosing, preventing, and treating misalignments of the teeth and jaws. After completing dental school, orthodontists receive additional years of specialized training in tooth movement, jaw alignment, and facial development.
Orthodontists use treatments such as braces, clear aligners, and other orthodontic appliances to help improve bite function, alignment, and overall oral health for children, teens, and adults. Their training allows them to create carefully planned treatment approaches that support both the appearance and function of the smile over time.
-
At what age should someone seek orthodontic treatment?
There is no single “right” age to begin orthodontic treatment, as care can be appropriate at different stages of life. Orthodontic evaluations are often recommended around age seven, when developing teeth and jaw growth can be assessed, even if treatment isn’t needed right away.
For children and teens, orthodontic treatment may be recommended during periods of active growth, while adults can seek orthodontic care at any age to address misalignments, bite concerns, or comfort issues. An orthodontist can help determine the most appropriate timing based on individual needs, growth patterns, and oral health.
-
How can I tell if I need orthodontic treatment?
The best way to know for sure if you could benefit from orthodontic treatment is to be evaluated by any orthodontist. You can book an appointment with us at any time (no referral needed!).
That being said, some signs that you should book a consultation include:
- Visibly misaligned teeth or bite
- Pain or discomfort when chewing
- Difficulty chewing or speaking
- Chronic facial or jaw pain
- Difficulty brushing and flossing
-
What are my treatment options at Surrideo Orthodontics?
The two primary modes of orthodontic treatment we offer are traditional braces and clear aligners. Both treatment modalities can be customized for each patient's specific needs.
For children, early intervention in the form of jaw growth guidance with appliances like palatal expanders may also be used.
-
How much does treatment with braces or clear aligners cost?
Orthodontic treatment costs vary depending on a number of factors, including the severity and complexity of your orthodontic issue, the amount of time it takes to correct it, and the type of treatment you choose.
Our team will work with you to develop a treatment plan that takes your budget into consideration. We are also happy to help you with submitting insurance claims and to work with you on a financing plan to help take some of the stress out of paying for treatment.
