We’re proud to offer a high standard of care in Calgary orthodontics by providing a variety of quality orthodontic treatments in our family-friendly office. We pride ourselves on our dedication to this standard of care throughout the entire orthodontic process, including the final part of your treatment: the retention phase.

About the Retention Phase

Your braces may have been removed, but that doesn’t mean that the entire orthodontic treatment process is finished quite yet. The retention phase represents the final stage of orthodontic treatment. After the braces are removed, your teeth are most vulnerable to unwanted shifts and movement. This phase is important for maintaining the new alignment of your teeth. Without wearing a retainer, your teeth may fall back into misalignment and erase all the hard work you’ve already put in.

At Surrideo Orthodontics, we utilize custom-made retainers that are guaranteed to be comfortable and personalized to each patient’s needs. We also offer a variety of retainer types, even down to the retainer’s color options, allowing you to pick one that perfectly suits your needs and style.

Retainer FAQs

Is It Necessary to Wear a Retainer After Orthodontic Treatment?

Yes. It will take a while for your periodontal ligaments and bone to adapt to the new position of the teeth. All patients will be required to wear a retainer after undergoing orthodontic treatment.

How Long Will the Retainers Have to Be Worn?

Retention is a lifelong commitment. We recommend your removable essix retainer be worn nightly, indefinitely, regardless of if you have fixed lingual wires or not. Our custom-made retainers are also meant to be worn 24 hours a day

How Do I Keep My Retainer Clean?

You can use a toothbrush, a small amount of toothpaste and lukewarm water to clean your retainer. You can also use a denture cleaner for a more convenient way to keep your retainer hygienic.
