Oral Hygiene

Congratulations! You now have braces, and you’ve taken a huge step forward in perfecting your smile. That doesn’t mean it’s time to ease up on oral care, however, because those braces, wires, and bands all trap food particles that can wreak havoc on your teeth and gums. Here’s a look at some of the ways you can keep your teeth in tip-top shape, courtesy of Dr. Cohen.

Brushing and flossing regularly is an integral component of proper oral hygiene. Ideally, you’ll brush after every meal and snack, but at minimum, be sure to do so in the morning and before bed. Try flossing once a day while you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.

We recommend Proxabrush, a toothbrush that goes in between your teeth and successfully cleans the areas around and underneath your braces and wires. When you need to clean both your braces and teeth, you need the high-tech performance of the Proxabrush.

For best results, use an antimicrobial mouthwash twice daily after brushing your teeth.

Remove and soak your orthodontic appliance once a day to improve taste and enhance overall cleanliness.

Maintaining an effective and consistent oral hygiene regimen is the best way to minimize your chances of tooth decay, plaque buildup, and gum disease, so taking proper precautions is arguably now more important than ever.
