Meet Dr. Cohen

Dr. Cohen provides comprehensive orthodontic care to children, teenagers and adults. He grew up just a few minutes from our office in Chinook Park. Knowing that he always wanted to be an orthodontist since high school, Dr. Cohen pursued his goal by studying at four different universities. He attended undergraduate school at the University of Calgary where he studied Biological Sciences followed by dental school at the University of Toronto. Then he moved south of the border to attend the University of Michigan. Dr. Cohen completed his specialty training in orthodontics at the University of Manitoba to become an orthodontist in 2002.

Dr. Cohen is a Fellow of The Royal College of Dentists of Canada. He is also a member of the Alberta Dental Association and College and the Canadian Dental Association.

Types of Braces We Use

We offer a variety of treatment options including:

Metal Braces

Conventional stainless steel metal braces are the most common and popular type of treatment among our patients. Today’s metal braces are small, comfortable and less noticeable. The brackets of these braces are cemented to the front surface of each tooth and individual bands are placed around the molars. The brackets and bands are connected by a thin metal wire and held in place by elastics. The wire is designed to help glide teeth smoothly into their new positions.

Clear Braces

Clear braces are also called ceramic braces. These braces are similar to metal braces but the brackets are made of a clear, ceramic material that blends in with the natural appearance of the teeth. This treatment option is effective and discreet due to the transparency of the brackets. While ceramic brackets do not stain, stains can accumulate around the brackets depending on the foods and beverages you consume. These elastics, however, are typically changed during monthly appointments to help minimize the discoloration.

Invisalign

Invisalign consists of a series of clear, removable aligners, which gradually move teeth. The aligners must be worn for approximately 22 hours each day and are only to be taken out when eating and when brushing or flossing the teeth. Because there are no wires or brackets used with Invisalign, there is nothing to adjust resulting in fewer appointments. Invisalign makes straightening your teeth very discreet and convenient as you can eat what you want and show off your smile during treatment without feeling self-conscious.

Harmony Braces

Harmony braces are also called lingual braces because they are placed on the lingual or tongue side of the teeth, out of sight. These braces are similar to metal braces as there is a wire used to guide the teeth into the desired location. Dr. Cohen will determine if you’re a good candidate for Harmony braces during your first visit.
